Esther joined Wagenborg Nedlift in early 2017 as Regional Manager Cranes West Netherlands. This means that every day she is in charge of the Wagenborg Nedlift locations in Botlek and Voorschoten. A responsible and challenging position. However, because of her career and extensive experience in hoisting and lifting it’s an easy job for Esther. In her free time Esther unwinds by racing motorcycles, her passion.
47 YEARS OLD, MARRIED TO BAUKE
LIVES IN: BAVEL
BELIEVES THAT: RACING IS EXTREMELY STRAINING, WHICH AS A RESULT MAKES IT VERY RELAXING
Why motorcycle racing?
‘There’s a real thrill to it, the speed with which you race around the track’, says Esther. ‘I personally own two motorcycles. One for the tracks, a 848 Ducati. And one for the road, a Ducati Monster S4RS. Racing is extremely straining, which as a result makes it very relaxing. You cannot afford to let your thoughts wander off and think about other things. You have to stay focused at all times. I just love to go racing to unwind after a tiring day at work.’
Motorcycle racing: a man’s world?
‘Absolutely, there are very few women who choose racing as their hobby. Hoisting and heavy transport are also a male-dominated industries. But I feel at ease here: like a fish takes to water, shall we say’.
The Wagenborg logo is displayed on both of your motorcycles. Are you proud to be part of the Wagenborg team?
‘Very proud indeed. I’ve only been with Wagenborg briefly, but I’ve known the company for a long time. Wagenborg has a good ambience, the people are open, straightforward and supportive. We work together closely as a team. I’ve been in the right place since my very first day at Wagenborg.’
