Wagenborg Shipping wins KVNR Maritime Shipping Award with EasyMax

Wagenborg Shipping has won the Maritime KVNR Shipping Award for 2017 with the Egbert Wagenborg, an innovative and sustainable vessel of the new EasyMax type. The award was presented by the Royal Association of Netherlands Shipowners (KVNR) at the Maritime Award Gala, which spotlights Dutch maritime innovativeness.

The Maritime KVNR Shipping Award is presented for outstanding operations in the field of ship innovation and for social, organisational, and environmental innovation in the maritime shipping industry. Its aim is to encourage greater awareness among shipping companies of further greening, greater safety, higher efficiency, and excellently trained crews.

“This design is simpler and at the same time smarter, and therefore easier to operate for both the ship’s crew and the shore-based organisation.”

Sustainable shipping

Wagenborg Shipping is extremely proud to have won the award. Theo Klimp, Wagenborg’s fleet director, had this to say: “This award is a real confirmation for us that we have made great strides in the field of sustainability and efficiency with this new generation of ships. This design is simpler and at the same time smarter, and therefore easier to operate for both the ship’s crew and the shore-based organisation. In fact, it allows us to do more with less. And that’s what sustainable shipping is all about: smarter and more efficient ships like the EasyMax”.

Innovative ship design

The EasyMax is Wagenborg’s own innovative ship design, in which “the art of leaving things out” has been applied. Incorporating only essential equipment, considering the loading possibilities, and locating the accommodation in the fore part of the vessel have made it possible to create an economical, lightweight vessel. With its impressive load capacity of 14,300 tonnes and a hold volume of 625,000 cft, the EasyMax breaks all the records for comparable ships ever built in the north of the Netherlands. The very low resistance due to its optimal hull shape, both above and below the waterline, results in a fuel consumption of only 9 t/d at 11 knots. This makes the EasyMax the world leader in efficiency and sustainability in its class. Most of the systems in its network can be accessed from various places on board, and they can also be accessed from the dockside for diagnosis or troubleshooting. This results in lower maintenance costs, minimal downtime, and more reliable service provision. With the EasyMax, Wagenborg has introduced the new standard for sustainable operations in the Dutch maritime shipping sector.
